27 October 2023 – The South African U17 women’s national team was held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco during an international friendly played at the Mohammed VI football complex in Salé on Friday.
Coach Simphiwe Dludlu’s charges were the first to get their name on the stadium scoreboard after Gugu Mabitsela scored the opening goal of the match in the 38th minute.
The South Africans held on until the 86th minute when Mokhtar Jamai equalised for the home team with a well-taken strike from a tight angle.
Dludu will be pleased with what she has seen as she said on the eve of the match some of these young players were getting a taste of international competition on the continent for the first time.
The two countries will meet again in the second and final international friendly on Monday 30 October 2023 at Père Jégo stadium in Casablanca.
