As RSA woke up to vote and decide the leaders for the next 5 years, Basketball South Africa has revived the National Club Championships for 2024. This event pits clubs from district level competing and proceeding to provincial and then national club championship. The criteria used for clubs to qualified is based on definition of a club in the BSA constitution. As pers the constitution a club defined by having a constitution, bank account in its name, executive committee, a senior men and Senior women’s team and a junior program participating in the local district league. The reason behind all these requirements is to sustainable programs within districts.

Close to 20 clubs across the nation will participate in these championships. A lot has happened since the announcement and some are trying hard to create “super teams” with some districts and provinces allowing it to happen. Some clubs formed a months ago and others colluding to create non existent entities.

The club championships need to be finished by the end of July 2024 so as to give the winning club enough time to prepare for international competitions which include Africa Club Championships for women and Basketball Africa League.
