  A total of 58 athletes have been included in the ASA Preliminary Team and Preparation Squad in the build-up to the 2023 World Athletic Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary between 19-27 August. The Preliminary Team, which consists of athletes who have automatically qualified by entry standard, features 10 athletes in individual events as well as the SA men's 4x100m relay team.   The South African team put up a fight in multiple races on Saturday, narrowly missing out on the podium at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia.
