The Olympic relay silver medallist again finished with a flourish, beating Thompson at the line in a photo finish. Simbine stopped the clock at 9.98 seconds with the Jamaican star finishing just 0.01s adrift.

Simbine now boasts three victories in as many international 100m races this season, adding to a superb start to 2025. He also claimed the top step of the podium at last week’s Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China. Simbine is the form sprinter at the moment, clocking a world lead of 9.90s at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in Gaborone on Saturday (12 April).

The 31-year-old Simbine won his first global sprint medal with his bronze in the 60m at the recent World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing.

Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo also got in on the action, claiming third place in a time of 10.03s. Former world champion Christian Coleman of the United States had to be content with fifth place while newly minted world indoor champion Jeremiah Azu of Great Britain finished seventh.
